Round 11 saw the Phoenix Premier Women come up against the Glenorchy Spartans in a top of the table clash. With two wins already over the Spartans for the season, Hobart entered the match missing key players Kylie McCauley and Tash Shirley. A tough tussle in the first half saw Glenorchy’s lead jump out as high as 20 points in the first half.
With star Sharna Thompson leading the way with a season-high 46 points, Hobart was able to claw back the deficit, taking the lead early in the third quarter. The Phoenix were unable to hold on, though, as Glenorchy finished stronger, leaving the Phoenix to come up short, 81-92.
A better night for the Phoenix Premier Men’s team, though, saw Callum Barker score 36 points and pull down over 20 rebounds for the game. An arm wrestle of a first quarter saw the lead change back and forth between the two teams, before Glenorchy were able to take control in the second, going into the half time break with a five point lead. As the third quarter progressed, Hobart were able to wrest control back of the game, taking the lead with 2:30 remaining in the third quarter. At that point there was no looking back, with Hobart eventually running out victorious, 79-66.
