As has been publicised widely in the past few months, the competition structure for basketball in southern Tasmania is changing. After a long period of uncertainty, we can now confirm details for the upcoming 2020 season. Please see below for further information:

Junior Representative Competitions  

  • Will include a Division 1 and Division 2.
  • All Division 1 and Division 2 boys will play at Kingborough Sports Centre on Saturdays.
  • All Division 1 and Division 2 girls will play at Kingborough Sports Centre on Sundays.
  • A compulsory grading weekend (at Kingborough Sports Centre) will be held on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd March (U12 & U14), and, Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th March (U16 & U18), where all representative teams (whether selected as Division 1 or Division 2) games will play games in a grading tournament, with the top 6 qualifying teams in each age group/gender forming Division 1, with the rest of the teams forming Division 2.   • Players are not permitted to play with more than one team per age group in the grading tournament.
  • No clearances or permits will be required for any player formally registered with Clarence United (they no longer exist and have been replaced by Dominoes and Grenadiers entering as separate clubs).
  • All teams will be required to submit a Core 5 (the best 5 players in the team), and these players are not permitted to play in a lower division within the same age group (but can play in any division in an older age group). Players not selected in the Core 5 are permitted to move between divisions at the discretion of the club/coach/player.
  • No clearances or permits will be permitted after entry close date February 21 2020.
  • Clubs are allowed a maximum of two players per team transferring into a given team whom have cleared from any other club after having played with that club in the previous Representative competition.
  • Players may play in multiple age groups however they cannot move up more than one age group without written permission from the Competitions Committee.
  • Division 1 games will be full timed as per 2019 the representative competition. Division 2 games will use clock rules similar to the domestic competition (click HERE for full conditions).
  • To ensure that all teams play an acceptable number of games for the season, there will be some weeks where teams play two games in one day, allowing for the usual breaks for school holidays etc.

Regular Season Start Date – 25th/26th April

Semi Finals – 15th/16th August

Preliminary Finals – 22nd/23rd August

Grand Finals – 29th/30th August

Junior Domestic Competitions

  • The domestic competition is not ‘Division 3’ of the representative competition, but is a stand alone competition with a focus on fun and participation.
  • All domestic girls will play on Tuesday evenings at Clarence Sports Centre.
  • U12, U14 & U16 domestic boys will play on Thursday evenings at Moonah Sports Centre. U18 domestic boys will play on Tuesday evenings at Clarence Sports Centre.
  • There will be only a single division, however, this may be broken up into further divisions in the interests of creating an even playing field, depending on the relative strength of teams entered.
  • The domestic competition will have a final series, but there will be no medals/trophies presented.
  • Players who are selected in the Core 5 for any representative team is not permitted to play in the domestic competition in that age group. To participate in the domestic competition they must play in a higher age group.
  • Domestic teams are not permitted to have more than two Division 1 representative players.
  • Clock rules will be similar to those used in the 2019 domestic competition (click HERE for full conditions).

Regular Season Start Date – 31st March/2nd April

Semi Finals – 11th/13th August

Preliminary Finals – 18th/20th August

Grand Finals – 25th/27th August

Senior Competitions

  • The senior competition will be made up of Premier League men (5 teams), Premier League women (4 teams), Reserve Men (6 teams), Reserve Women (4 teams).
  • All games held at Kingborough Sports Centre on Wednesday evenings.
  • The minimum age for both boys and girls to play senior Basketball is now turning 15 in the year of competition.
  • Any player, including Under 18/16 players who are registered Hobart Chargers (or other NBL1) players will now be listed as restricted players and not allowed to play in the Senior Reserve competition.
  • Most other playing conditions remain the same as the 2019 senior competition (click HERE for full conditions)..
  • Roster dates are:

Regular Season Start Date – Wednesday 4th March

Semi Finals – 29th July

Preliminary Finals – 5th August

Grand Finals – 8th August

 

U10 Boys & Girls

  • All boys and girls games will be played at Hilliard Christian School (32 Cheviot Road, West Moonah) on Sunday’s between the hours of 8am and 6pm.
  • Playing conditions will be similar to those used in 2019, and the 2020 domestic conditions.
  • Roster dates are:

Regular Season Start Date – 5th April

Semi Finals – 16th August

Preliminary Finals – 23rd August

Grand Finals – 30th August
